 ICA 2019 News
ica2019logo The organizers have received 1530 impressive abstracts for ICA 2019. They are happy to announce very exciting plenary lectures given by renowned experts. Please find here the abstracts and biographies: www.ica2019.org/technical-program/plenary-lectures/. EAA (supported by HEAD Genuit Foundation) will offer 10 Best Paper and Presentation Awards to young researchers who will present an oral paper or a poster as first author. Details for application are published at www.ica2019.org/technical-program/plenary-lectures/. Please also forward the information about this opportunity to your student and young acoustician members. They would also like to remind you that the deadline for reviewed paper submission is May 1, 2019. Non-reviewed papers shall be submitted not later than June 1, 2019, corresponding to our instructions in the acceptance letter and at www.ica2019.org/authors/final-papers/. The submission must be accompanied by the payment of the conference fee by June 1. Please note that ICA 2019 will be accompanied by a large exhibition located in the foyer space in the heart of the congress venue. Companies will be able to display their latest technology and services. Prominent exhibit spaces are still available, details can be found at www.ica2019.org/exhibition-sponsorship/. Furthermore, there will be special events aiming at connecting young researchers and industry (career opportunities, networking). As a special offer along the integration of EAA EUROREGIO, all students and ICA student participants are welcome to join the EAA Summer School from 6 to 8 September.  The ICA has announced to its Member Societies and International Affiliates that the year 2020 will be the International Year of Sound. The letter from ICA President Michael Taroudakis and a document with additional details are reproduced here. iys IYS 2020 will provide an opportunity to promote to the world the importance of sound in all aspects of our life. Organizations are encouraged to consider outreach activities and to be innovative. A lasting legacy from the International Year of Sound in 2020 will be the development of education programs that highlight the importance of sound and in particular promoote best practices in the utilisation of sound and preservation of hearing health.

 

 International Noise Awareness Day: 24 April 2019
All over the world, people, organizations, and governments will commemorate the 24th Annual International Noise Awareness Day (INAD) on Wednesday, April 24 2019. The Center for Hearing and Communication (CHC) founded this yearly event in 1996 to encourage people to do something about bothersome noise where they work, live, and play.  voix The winner of the 2019 ICA Early Career Award is Jérémie Voix. Professor Voix works at the Univérsité du Québec in Montréal, Canada, and is the current President of the Canadian Acoustical Association. He will receive his award at the Opening Ceremonies of ICA 2019 in Aachen, Germany.

 

 The ICA, in conjunction with La Semaine du Son, will mobilise its network to organize a series of global events celebrating the adoption of the UNESCO Resolution No. 39 C / 49 "The Importance of Sound in the World Today: Promoting Good Practice". These events will take the form of an International Year of Sound in 2020. The members of the ICA are accustomed to organizing large-scale national and international events on sound. These events include congresses that bring together up to several thousand participants working in the area of sound. iys As well, these organisations are experienced in outreach activities events aimed at raising awareness of the importance of sound in the life of everyone. A lasting legacy from the International Year of Sound in 2020 will be development of education programs that highlight the importance of sound and in particular promoting best practices in the utilisation of sound and preservation of hearing health.

 

 The Board of the ICA with the support of the Acoustical Society of America(ASA) and the German Acoustical Society (DEGA) has established the ICA-ASA-DEGA Young Scientist Conference Attendance Grants (YS Grants) Programme to help young acousticians attend the 2019 International Congress on Acoustics. Applications are now being accepted for ICA 2019 to be held 9-13 September 2019 in Aachen, Germany. See application procedures for more information.

 ICA Member Societies are being advised that applications for the ICA Early Career Award are now being accepted. The ICA Early Career Award is presented at the Triennial ICA congress to an individual who is relatively early in his/her professional career (about 10-15 years of active career), who has contributed substantially, through published papers, to the advancement of theoretical or applied acoustics or both, and who has been active in the affairs of Acoustics through his/her National Society, other National Society(ies), Regional or International organizations.  The ICA has been working hard for many years to establish an International Year of Sound. Our focus is now on the year 2020. The ongoing efforts have been described in a recent editorial by IIAV President Jorge Arenas. See IYS editorial.

 Planning is well underway for the 23rd International Congress on Acoustics. ICA 2019 will be held in Aachen, Germany, 2019 September 8-13. This congress is being hosted by DEGA, the German Society for Acoustics.

 World Hearing Day: 3 March
World Hearing Day is held on 3 March each year to raise awareness on how to prevent deafness and hearing loss and promote ear and hearing care across the world. With the theme “Hear the future”, World Hearing Day 2018 will draw attention to the anticipated increase in the number of people with hearing loss around the world in the coming decades. It will focus on preventive strategies to stem the rise and outline steps to ensure access to the necessary rehabilitation services and communication tools and products for people with hearing loss.

 La Semaine du Son: 20 January - 4 February 2018
The Week of Sound association aim is to encourage every human being to realize that the sound is a fundamental element of personal balance in his relationship to others and the to the world, in its economic environmental and social dimensions, as well as medical, industrial and cultural. It considers sound matters as an access door to the world. Health, environment sound, recording techniques and sound diffusion, the relationship picture and sound as well as music and sound expression are the five concerned main sectors.
The 15th edition of La Semaine du Son will be held from 20 Jan to 4 February 2018 with events around Paris and throughout France. This 2018 event will include the first events under the recent UNESCO charter for the week of sound.
